After having his penis tattooed an unnamed 21 year old Iranian man was left with a permanent semi-erection. The man had the phrase ‘borow be salaamat’ (good luck with your journeys) inked on the shaft of his penis as a dedication to his girlfriend as well as the letter M which is his girlfriend’s initial.

Unfortunately for the man the tattoo resulted in nonischemic priapism, according to doctors from the Kermanshah University of Medical Sciences. They stated that he suffered an arteriovenous fistula in his penis as a result of a tattoo needle being plunged too deep, the doctors who treated the unnamed man wrote ‘In our case, most probably, the handheld needle penetrated the penis too deep, creating an arteriovenous fistula,’ in the Journal of Sexual Medicine.

The definition of a fistula is: A connection between two organs or vessels that are not normally linked. For the young man this was between an artery and a vein in his penis caused by the tattoo.

The doctors also stated in the Journal of Sexual Medicine that: ‘For eight days after tattooing, the penis was painful, and thus there were no erections. After that, the patient noticed longer-than-usual sleep-related erections. This progressed, within a week, to a constantly half-rigid penis, day and night.’

Normally when a man’s penis becomes erect, blood rushes in through the arteries and later leaves through the veins. However when a nonischemic priapism occurs , blood continues to fill the penis faster than it can leave which results in pressure remaining constant and the penis permanently erect.

Nonischemic priapism takes its name from the Roman deity Priapus who was a rustic fertility god and protector of livestock, gardens and male genitalia. He is seen depicted with an absurdly oversized, permanent erection.

For the unnamed Iranian man, researchers stated that the problem resolves itself naturally 62 per cent of the time. But if it doesn’t men have the option of selective arterial embolism which is a procedure that blocks the offending artery. In the case of the unfortunate young man he apparently chose to have a shunt implanted to drain the excess blood. According to researchers: ‘Predictably, the procedure was unsuccessful,’ the authors wrote. But happily the man was left with no lasting damage.

They stated: ‘Because of the painless nature of erections, moderately good preservation of erectile function during intercourses, and disappointment with former surgery, the patient has declined to undergo further therapies, and lives with his condition. The patient has no regrets, despite his permanent erection. Nevertheless, the authors warned against others considering the same. Based on our unique case, we discourage penile tattooing.’

Doctors in the Indian state of Chhattisgarh removed 431 coins, 196 pellets and 17 small bolts from the stomach of a young farmer who had been eating the metal objects for at least the last nine months. Unfortunately the young man Kamleshwar Singh died even though doctors had removed the objects.

Singh had arrived at the hospital complaining of abdominal pains, following x-ray investigation doctors found numerous objects in his stomach however it wasn’t until they operated on him that they realised how much was actually in his stomach. In total doctors removed thirteen pounds of metal which included 431 coins, 196 pellets and 17 small bolts.

Bhojram Dewangan, Director of Shreesti Institute of Medical Science and Research Centre, where Mr Singh was treated, said: “The patient had been consuming small iron objects for the last nine months. He visited us complaining of intolerable abdominal pain. After sonography and X- ray tests, the doctors carried out the major surgery.”

Dr Yadav, who led the team that operated upon Mr Singh, said: “All the iron objects were lying at the base of his stomach. When we started the surgery, we thought we would find a few items. But as we progressed, we were amazed to find such a huge number of coins and pellets had passed into his intestines. Signs of chronic ulceration were apparent in the stomach.”

Doctors believe that Mr Singh suffered from schizophrenia however his family and friends were not aware of his eating habits.

His wife, said: “My husband complained of frequent stomach ache and spent sleepless nights in the past four weeks. But he kept us in the dark about swallowing iron objects. He stopped going to the field citing weakness and was even unable to have his regular meals.”

Doctors also believed that the young man also suffered from additional psychiatric problems which gave him an appetite for non-nutritional foreign objects as well as schizophrenia.

Stacey Rush, the child’s mother, managed to snatch the drug from Lily, her daughter, (only 17 months of age) could swallow it. She then complained to the manager, but all that was done was that she was given a free Fruit Shoot to wash her child’s mouth out with.

‘He said it happens all the time and there was nothing he could do.’ ‘But if they knew someone was taking drugs in the toilet, they should do something about it’ Said Stacey Rush, 24.
Miss Rush, a mother of two, said she was sickened to find that drugs and tobacco had been left in a restaurant, never mind a baby changing area, and that she was horrified as staff initially refused to apologise.

She said: ‘I didn’t spot it but then I saw Lily had something in her mouth. When I realised it was cannabis I felt sick. It was all over the floor mixed with tobacco. What if she had swallowed it? There was no apology. All they did is offer a Fruit Shoot to wash the cannabis out of her mouth. I won’t go there again.’

Miss Rush, had taken her daughter into the KFC restaurant just before lunch, and took this opportunity to change her nappy.

She then that the cannabis was lying about on the baby-changing platform and that there was also some on the floor.

‘Goodness knows who left it there – it’s horrifying and sickening to think a mum had been in there rolling a joint while they changed their baby’s nappy. I thought these fast-food restaurants sent people in all the time to check on the toilet areas and baby changing facilities to make sure they’re kept clean. It doesn’t say much for their standards if someone can wander into a baby changing area and smoke a joint without any of the staff noticing. If my baby had ingested some of this cannabis goodness knows what it would have done to her.’

A KFC spokesman then retaliated with the following comment: ‘We were shocked to hear of this incident, and have spoken with Miss Rush to apologise for her experience. We take hygiene very seriously in all of our stores, and our toilets are cleaned every half an hour. We are currently investigating the substance to determine what it was, and have reminded staff at our Newbury restaurant to be extra-vigilant in the future.’

The fast food chain says that it is considering compensating Miss Rush. However, it has not yet informed the police, KFC say they will do if the substance is proven to be illegal.

A thirty-four year old man from Philadelphia used an electric saw, to sever his arm below the elbow, before hiding the limb in his house in a bizarre act of self-mutilation. He cut the hand of the limb before hiding both pieces in separate places in his own home.

The man was then taken to Albert Einstein Medical Centre and is in an unknown condition. According to CBS News the local police are investigating the incident as to why the man amputated his own arm and hand.

Some people suffer from a syndrome called body integrity identity disorder, where they feel incomplete with four limbs and their brains don’t recognise a healthy limb as belonging to their body which is why some people end up removing them.

Individuals who request help from surgeons find that their requests are usually turned down because they won’t amputate a healthy limb.

In recent years tobacco companies in Europe have been made to show graphic photos on their packaging which show the damaging effects smoking can have on people. However now five companies are now suing US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) after a law was passed which would force tobacco companies in the US to do the same.

According to the five firms the plans will violate their constitutional right to free speech, because they will be forced to promote the government’s anti-smoking message. At the moment the FDA have not commented on the lawsuit and the effect it will have on law which will come into effect from September 2012 and will require warnings on all cigarette packets.

The suit against the FDA was filed late on Tuesday by RJ Reynolds Tobacco, Lorillard Tobacco, Commonwealth Brands, Liggett Group and Santa Fe Natural Tobacco in an effort to delay enforcement of the new law. According to their complaint which is 45 pages long, the five companies state that putting the new graphic labels on their packaging would illegally force them to make consumers “depressed, discouraged and afraid” to buy their products.

In a statement Floyd Abrams, a lawyer representing the cigarette makers, said “The government can require warnings which are straightforward and essentially uncontroversial, but they can’t require a cigarette pack to serve as a mini-billboard for the government’s anti-smoking campaign and that the new labels would violate the companies’ free-speech rights under the first amendment to the constitution.”

The labels are required to cover the top half of the front and back sides of cigarette packages and 20% of the printed advertising, according to the 2009 Family Smoking Prevention and Tobacco Control Act. In June this year it was stated by the Health Secretary Kathleen Sebelius that the new labels could deter young people from starting to smoke and give adult smokers a new incentive to quit.

It’s not the first time a lawsuit like this has been made, last year in a US district court in Kentucky a cigarette maker lost a case when a judge said the FDA could move ahead with forcing the companies to use the new graphic labels which feature dead bodies, diseased lungs and rotten teeth. The ruling for this case is currently pending before the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals.

Both RJ Reynolds whose brands include Camel and Winston and Lorillard brands who include Newport and True are part of the suit. However US tobacco firms, Altria which is one of the biggest US tobacco firms in the US and who are the parent company of Philip Morris and maker of Marlboro cigarettes have so far not joined in any of the legal action against the FDA.

According to figures from the American Cancer Society in 2011, more than 220,000 people in the US are expected to be diagnosed with lung cancer and the use of tobacco is estimated to be responsible for 443,000 deaths in the US each year.

Girls as young as seven are being offered pole dancing lessons at a gym in Greater Manchester, which are advertised on the gyms Facebook book page. JNL Pole Fitness has been criticised by concerned parents and councillors for offering the lessons normally reserved for adults to youngsters.

According to the instructor at the dance studio the classes are fun, good exercise and do not teach their children anything erotic, in fact instructor: Jess Leanne Norris, 18, describes her pole fitness classes at her studio in Bolton as ‘art’.

One parent, who takes her daughter to the lessons, defended the studio and dance instructor, Jess Norris, Kate Eaton, 33, from Harwood said: “’Jen had her seventh birthday party there with her friends. She loves it. I do not have a problem with it at all. It is nothing to do with lap dancing, it is gymnastics. It is not in the slightest bit sexual. I have put pictures of her on Facebook because she wants people to see what she can do. We wear short shorts and vest tops so we can grip the pole and they are not performing in front of anyone. If she was doing gymnastics in a leotard or at a swimming gala in a costume, anyone could be watching and people don’t complain about that.”

Jess Leanne Norris, 18, who runs the classes, said: “What I teach is pole fitness, nothing else. I have never received any complaints. There is nothing at all rude going on at JLN. I have had nothing but support, it is an art. We only put pictures on Facebook with parents’ consent. It is nothing inappropriate.”

However concerns have been raised about the nature of the photographs being posted online, Executive Member for Children’s Services, Cllr Nick Peel, said: “In general, parents and organisations need to be careful about publishing photos of children on the internet. It is unsafe and people trawl the internet looking for things like this. On the one hand, I don’t want to jump to conclusions, but on the other, it is a dangerous world on the internet when it comes to children and people need to be aware of the situation they can be putting children into quite innocently.”

There was one mother who voiced her concerns over you children taking part in these classes, she asked not to be named but said: “This concerns me greatly as I would not want my 13-year-old wandering round in hotpants and hanging upside down. They advertise as being aerobics/gymnastics with a pole but if you see the pictures, you will see this is not the case. These pictures are also being posted across Facebook and this just invites child grooming.”

A dance teacher, who also wished to remain anonymous, added: “I think there has got to be a line that should not be crossed with children. Children want to do it and some parents will let them do it, but it could damage their developing bodies and that might not show now.”

A man was placed in a morgue fridge inside of a body bag only to wake up. The man was sent here by his family as they thought him dead after they had found him unconscious.

The 50 year old man, who had spent a total of 21 hours on a corpse trolley, had actually had an extremely severe asthma attack.

Out of panic, the man began screaming – which terrified mortuary staff in Libode, South Africa and made them flee, thinking he was a ghost. The man was eventually released.

“At first the men ran for their lives. We need to get the message across to all South Africans that it is very wrong for them to conclude on their own that a person has died. You begin to ask yourself how many other people have died like that in a morgue.”- An Eastern Cape health spokesperson said.

Durex:, the leading condom brand, is currently facing trouble because of its suppliers.

Britain is being affected after an argument between Durex and its supplier’s results in a condom shortage. The Indian firm, TTK Lig, is halting its supply due to discrepancies in prices. The company launched a High Court bid to force TTK to resume supply; however, the claim has now been rejected.

Many people fear an increase in sexually transmitted diseases and unwanted pregnancies, as the NHS release a statement warning the public that there is ‘disruption’ in the supplies.
Sexual health experts worry that due to shortage, young people will begin to have unprotected sex. There is also a worry that once the stock returns back to normal, the youngsters may already be in a habit of not using protection. The shortage may dissuade younger people from not using condoms in the future.

This dispute has made massive changes to the market. Durex, being the most popular retailers, account for 40 per cent of the market, with TTK makes more than half of them.

Computer hackers have targeting ‘The Sun’s’ website by directing visitors to a hoax website which describes Murdoch falsely as being dead.

The famous hacking group LulzSec, which has previously targeted companies including Sony, claimed it carried out the hacking, this was announced via messages on Twitter. The group’s name comes from the word ‘lulz’, which is online slang for laughter at someone else’s expense. Their logo is a cartoon man in a top hat and monocle, holding a glass of wine.

Readers that were trying to access thesun.co.uk were redirected to another website, new-times.co.uk, which displayed a story given the headline: “Media mogul’s body discovered”. It suggested that Mr Murdoch had been found after he had committed suicide by “ingesting a large quantity of palladium”.

After that hoax site stopped working, The Sun address was then re-directing to LulzSec’s Twitter account.

The only comment that was made was by a News International spokeswoman who simply confirmed that the company was “aware” of what was happening.

As 60 detectives investigate medication sabotage after three deaths, staff are thought to also be at risk and to work in pairs!

Another patient was critically ill today, at a hospital where police are investigating the suspicious deaths of three people after a batch of medication was deliberately sabotaged.

The deaths of 3 patients (George Keep, 84, Arnold Lancaster, 71, and Tracey Arden) are being investigated in at a hospital in in Stockport, after it was found that 36 saline ampoules had been poisoned with insulin.

Police were alerted by hospital staff after a senior nurse noticed numerous patients on her ward had lower blood sugar levels than normal. Police were investigating the possibilities that the killer is either at work or a visitor at the hospital.

Detectives believe insulin was injected into the saline solutions which resulted in 11 other patients at the hospital being affected by the drug and one resulted in enduring a stay in ICU!

Police have repeatedly stressed caution and do not yet know if the contamination caused their deaths as they are still waiting for the post-mortem results. However, they have admitted that they are hunting someone who deliberately contaminated the saline with suspicion that other batches have also been affected.

The latest news regarding this particular case comes one day later… 23-year-old, Sam Edge, said he believed he had been given a sabotaged insulin drip. Mr Edge was admitted to the hospital on July 9. He had suffered high blood sugar levels and stayed on Ward A1. However, Mr Edge suffered three ‘hypos’ – which was unusual for him and believes, were down to the poisoned solution. He quoted: ‘Whoever has done this is quite evil. It’s aiming to harm as many people as possible.’

Edge was moved to Ward A1, where he was put on a saline drip with separate insulin supply and began a fast recovery. But the following day, when he was given new saline supplies , he suffered three drops in insulin within a seven hour time period.

He commented: ‘It’s a scary thought that if I hadn’t recognised my blood sugar dropping I could have slipped into a coma, but as a diabetic I recognised the symptoms.’

Security has been stepped up at Stepping Hill Hospital over fears a new ‘angel of death’ is on the loose inspecting and questioning any visitors that enter the hospital, as well as keeping a close eye on both the patients and staff.

A woman from California faces life in prison, after she cut of her estranged husband’s penis and putting in the waste disposal unit to destroy it according to local authorities. 48 year old Catherine Kieu Becker, told police that her husband “deserved it” following an argument over guests staying at their home.

On Monday night, Catherine made her 60 year old husband dinner at their home however unknown to her husband she had put some poison or drug in the food which would cause him to pass out. Speaking to officers he said he felt sick after eating so went to lie down, he then lost consciousness, which is when his wife tied arms and legs to the bed with a rope and attacked him with a 10-inch knife as he awoke.

Police Lt Jeff Nightengale said: “He was conscious when his penis was removed.”

According to police Catherine Becker, called emergency after she had put her husband’s penis in the waste disposal and when they arrived, directed them to the bedroom where he was lying. The paramedics found the victim still tied to the bed and bleeding profusely. Becker was arrested at the scene for investigation of aggravated mayhem, false imprisonment, assault with a deadly weapon, administering a drug with intent to commit a felony, poisoning and spousal abuse. Bail was set at one million dollars.

Her husband underwent surgery and is in serious condition at the University of California at Irvine Medical Centre in Orange. According to reports the couple were in the process of divorce.

Scientists has recently found reason to believe that too-much ‘high-intensity’ IVF treatment could reduce the chance of having a healthy baby.

Many patients are often given strong doses of drugs to ‘force’ their ovaries into producing large numbers of eggs to harvest for IVF. The reasoning behind doing this, would be, the more eggs available, the higher the chance of getting a ‘good’ egg.

However, now fertility experts has reason to think this is lowering the chances of getting pregnant as doing this could damage the eggs themselves. Scientists fear that the large amounts of FSH are making it more likely for the embryo to have chromosome abnormalities. It is a well-known fact that chromosome faults within a fertilised egg can lead to a variety of life-long conditions and disabilities such as Down’s syndrome or the death of the embryo in early pregnancy (miscarriage) –this is more common. Scientists strongly believe that too much FSH can cause too little or too many chromosomes.
