Pop singer Duffy sweep the Brit Awards last night by winning three awards including Best Female Artist, Best Breakthrough Act and Best British Album. Aimee Ann Duffy, 24 from Bangor in North Wales, shot to fame last year as her debut album, Rockferry sold over 1.7 million copies in the UK and over 5 million copies worldwide.
On receiving her awards, Duffy said: “I used to watch the Brits at home with my sisters every year,” and added: “It is so symbolic of British music it has got to be the most surreal thing I’ve done so far”.
Duffy’s biggest selling single so far, Mercy, stayed at number one in the UK singles chart for five consecutive weeks last year.
Other winners included King of Leon, who won Best International Album and Best International Group; Kanye West won Best International Solo Artist and The Pet Shop Boys who won the Outstanding Contribution to Music award.
