#FoynotHoy: Dumb Chelsea fans attack Sir Chis Hoy on Twitter rather than Ref Chris Foy

There’s no one stupider than a Chelsea fan scorned it seems. After Chelsea lost to Aston Villa at the weekend, Chelsea fans took to Twitter to direct their anger to the ref Chris Foy, however many fans, directed their anger, wrongly to Olympic gold medallist Sir Chris Hoy instead.

It’s easy to see how the fans got their Hoy’s and Foy’s mixed up, especially in the red sea of rage they were no doubt suffering from after the game. For Sir Chris Hoy, it’s not the first time he has been mistaken for the referee, Chris Foy and received a barrage of abuse from football fans. Foy refereed over Saturdays game where Chelsea lost 1-0 loss to Aston Villa, Chelsea manager feeling disgruntled about the way his team were treated during the game, also called on the Premier League to stop sending Foy to officiate at Chelsea matches.

It seems when Foy does referee a match Sir Chis Hoy, is generally in line for abuse from simplistic fans who can’t differentiate between the two. Obviously on one letter is different, so understandable for many to grasp. When Stoke beat Tottenham, in December, with Foy overseeing that game, Hoy received abuse that day, luckily however the Olympic cyclist can see the funny side.

BBC Football Focus presenter Dan Walker on Saturday wrote on Twitter: “Poor old @chrishoy could be in for it tonight #FoynotHoy.”

Hoy, who at the time was at the London Velodrome on Saturday night, replied back with: They’re coming thick and fast! With an emphasis on the ‘thick’.”

During the abuse from Tottenham fans, Hoy had to reiterate t many scorned fans: “Just for the record 1) I don’t need glasses and 2) I do not lead a double life as an English premier league ref. That’s Chris Foy.

And: “Still getting some rather amusing grief from Spurs fans! On the plus side I’ve learned some new 4 letter words today. #FoyNotHoy.”
