Russian farmer who planted landmines is convicted
A 73 year old Russian farmer has been convicted of planting landmines around his property, Alexander Skopintsev was so sick of people trespassing and stealing potatoes from his farm he set up the home made land mines as a deterrent. However when an intruder set one off and was injured by the trip wire style mines Alexander was arrested.
Alexander Skopintsev who was from the eastern region of Primorye near China’s border was convicted for the unlawful construction and storage of weapons and received a two-and-a-half year suspended sentence, he had laid 3 land mine devices on his land after making them in his garage. “Skopintsev testified that he had prepared the explosive devices to protect his garden against thieves,” regional prosecutors said in a statement reported by RIA-Novosti news agency.
