Chief executive of Ryanair, Michael O’Leary has told reporters that the Irish budget airline is considering whether or not to charge its passengers to use the toilets onboard its airplanes.
In a statement he said “One thing we have looked at in the past, and are looking at again, is the possibility of maybe putting a coin slot on the toilet door, so that people might actually have to spend a pound to spend a penny in future”.
This angered consumer group Which? Holidays who said: “It seems Ryanair is prepared to plumb any depth to make a fast buck and, once again, is putting profit before the comfort of its customers.
And adding that, “Charging people to go to the toilet might result in fewer people buying overpriced drinks on board, though – that would serve Ryanair right.”
Ryanair announced last week that it planned to cut the costs of its flights by closing all of its airport check-in desks by the end of the year. An extra fee will be charged for passengers who want to use the check-in desk as well as passengers with additional luggage.
