A text message sent by a Canadian Government Minister saying “Thatcher has died” sent government ministers into a panic. The text sent to a constituent by Canada’s transport minister saw people go into frenzy at a gala event in Toronto last night, with the Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper been informed that former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher had passed away.
Before anyone thought to check with Downing Street panicked diplomatic aides started to prepare an official statement mourning the death. When checks were finally made much to the amusement of British Officials, they realised their mistakes, as the Iron Lady who had attended the Remembrance Day Service at London’s Westminster Abbey just a couple of days ago was very much alive.
Afterwards it was realised that Thatcher was actually the Transport Minister Mr Baird’s beloved cat that had actually died, who just so happened to be named after his political heroine, causing great embarrassment, to everyone.
