The Somerset tourist board is using the job centre to advertise a £50,000 a year job as a witch, as part of their visitor’s attraction program. The job, which calls for the individual to live in Wookey Hole Caves and teach visitors about witchcraft and magic, has come up after the previous witch retired.
The role is open to males and females to comply with sexual discrimination laws, although males will have to wear a wig and dress like a witch. The tourist board has said that the successful candidate must be able to cackle and must like cats.
The successful candidate will enjoy a salary of £50,000 a year working during the weekends, school holidays and over the Halloween period.
Daniel Medley, from the Wookey Hole Caves said, “Wookey Hole wants the appointee to go about her everyday business as a hag, so that people passing through the caves can get a sense of what the place was like in the Dark Ages,”
Adding that: “We are witchless at the moment so we need to get the role filled as soon as possible. We are looking for someone who is friendly, a little mischievous and with lots of character.”
Auditions for the job are due to begin on the 28th July, with a panel of judges accessing the candidate’s costumes and character, as well as their ability to perform the witch’s tasks.
