A matador in Aguascalientes, Mexico, narrowly survived after being tossed 13ft (4m) in the air and gored in the neck by a bull during a festival. Joselito Adame was knocked unconscious by the animal, which charged at him while he was standing next to it. Despite suffering head injuries and three cuts to his thorax, including one 9cm long, the 34-year-old was able to recover in the hospital after receiving treatment for his injuries.

The terrifying incident was captured on video, showing Adame falling on his head and lying completely unconscious on the ground as the bull charged at him. Helpers piled into the ring to distract the animal, allowing medics to rush in and treat Adame’s injuries.

According to a spokesperson for the Plaza de Toros de Aguascalientes, Adame suffered a concussion and dermo-epidermal abrasions in the chest at the left clavicular level. He also suffered a tendon injury, muscle destruction, and two goring trajectories of 9cm and 4cm in length, respectively.

Despite the severity of the injuries, Adame made a good recovery in the hospital. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the risks involved in bullfighting, a controversial sport that has been banned in some countries.
