Man dies by accident after burying himself alive

For most being buried alive is a big fear, however one Russian man thought that burring himself alive for a night would bring him ‘good luck’ turned out to only bring him bad luck after he was found dead the next morning.

The man who lived in the eastern city of Blagoveshchensk, dug a hole in his back garden, he then climbed into a coffin that was placed in the hole. The coffin had holes in it for air pipes he also took inside with him a blanket, a mobile phone and a bottle of water. He then got one of his friends to cover the coffin with around eight inches of soil and was left there over night. His friend called him whilst he was buried and he was doing well, so left for the night, then the next morning when he returned he found that his friend was dead.

‘According to his friend, the man wanted to test his endurance and insistently asked his friend to help him spend the night buried,’ said Alexei Lubinsky, an aide to the area’s chief investigator. ‘We know that the victim was a computer programmer and that he has a small child.’

The victim thought that by burying himself alive he would achieve good luck for the rest of his life apparently, which obviously did not work. During the night in question, heavy rain fell and its thought that this may have blocked the man’s breathing tubes. Unfortunately this is not the first time in Russia someone has buried themselves alive and died. Last year another man buried himself alive to conquer his fear of death, however after an hour and half underground he was found dead. He had been crushed by the weight of the earth on top of him.
