Saturday, August 15 was Jewson Day at Minehead Cricket Club, a special occasion that underlined the strong link between the club and its main sponsor.
Besides their regular spectators, the Premier Division match between Minehead and Shapwick and Polden in the Somerset Cricket League was also watched by a large number of Jewson customers.
Paul Spence, branch manager of Jewson’s locally, said: “We couldn’t have chosen a much better day to host Jewson Day.
“Jewson as a company likes to support the local community from the grass roots upwards, and we are sponsors of the National League and we have done Premier League sponsorship.
“We like to give something back to the local community and in Minehead we support Minehead Barbarians Rugby Club, Minehead Cricket Club as well as Minehead Football Club, along with the Cycling Club.
“This is just one of the main sports that we get involved in with locally where we are the main sponsor and in return they give us a day where we can bring our customers down to enjoy some sport, share some hospitality, do a bit of networking and build some relationships.”
Paul added: “Coincidentally the Minehead opening batter today is Andrew Stevens who is the yard supervisor at Jewson’s locally, which is really good and another link between the cricket club and Jewson.”
It was also a special day for 15 year old Noah Hines, who was umpiring his fourth Somerset Cricket League match after gaining his ACO qualifications this year.
Earlier in the week, as part of The Hundred Rising scheme, Noah, who attends West Somerset College, went to Sophia Gardens in Cardiff to watch a Welsh Fire match and shadow the match officials. In addition, Noah has been umpiring at the King’s College Cricket Festival in Taunton.
