Councillor delivers handwritten election letters to constituents

A councillor from the Liberal Democrat party, Alan Good, has delivered hand-written election letters to his constituents in the Ancoats and Beswick area of Greater Manchester. The blue envelopes feature hand-written names and addresses, while the message inside is also written in blue ink over an A5 paper that continues on the other side.

One local said the letter looked so personal they thought it was a belated birthday card. They had never voted for the Liberal Democrats before, so it was strange to receive a personal letter from them. They also commented on the scruffy handwriting and suggested Cllr Good should have typed the letter on a computer.

The letter details how Cllr Good has been campaigning alongside local trans campaigner Chris Northwood and criticises the Labour candidate for not being local to the area. It also includes a post-script that says: “In Ancoats and Beswick, it’s a straight fight between Labour and Chris Northwood. People have seen the difference a Lib Dem councillor can bring. They know yet another Labour councillor won’t change a thing.”

The letter was published and promoted by L Allen on behalf of C Northwood (Liberal Democrats) at an address in the Ancoats area. It was then printed at a nearby printer in the city centre before being posted through locals’ doors.
