Chelsea Confirm Dastan Satpayev Loan to Burnley

Chelsea have confirmed that Dastan Satpayev has joined Burnley on a season-long loan.

The Kazakh striker, 18, signed for Chelsea from Kairat this summer. He will spend the campaign in the Championship after Burnley’s relegation from the top flight last season.

Satpayev joined up with his new Chelsea team-mates on the club’s pre-season tour of Australia and Asia, where he featured and scored in the 6-4 win over Western Sydney Wanderers. He started the game off the left flank and opened the scoring inside six minutes in Xabi Alonso’s first pre-season game in charge.

He came off the bench in the 2-1 defeat by Tottenham and the 1-0 loss to Juventus. He was also handed a late cameo appearance in the ill-tempered 3-3 draw against Johor Darul Ta’zim last weekend.

At Kairat, Satpayev made 58 first-team appearances and scored 26 goals. He also played in the Champions League.

He now moves to the north west, where he will play under new Burnley boss Nicky Hayen. Hayen took over at Turf Moor from Mike Jackson, who had been placed in interim charge after Scott Parker’s sacking.

Satpayev will battle it out with Zian Flemming for the chance to lead the line for Burnley this term. He can also operate out wide or as one of the two No10s in the 3-4-2-1 formation Hayen adopted in the penalty shootout victory over Notts County in the first round of the League Cup last weekend.

Marcus Edwards and Aaron Ramsey started in those two positions behind Flemming in that game. Mike Tresor and Zeki Amdouni replaced them in the second half as Burnley looked for a winning goal that did not come.
